Traction Alopecia

Traction alopecia involves atrophy of hair follicles as a result of chronic tension on hair follicles. It is typically seen in the frontotemporal regions as a result of chronically wearing tight hairstyles such as tight ponytails or braids. Traction alopecia is non-scarring at first but over time becomes scarring. The condition is treated by reducing the tension on the hair follicles.
