Rosacea

Rosacea is a common, chronic inflammatory disorder with onset generally in the 4th decade of life. Lesions typically affect the central portion of the face and include facial flushing and localized erythema, telangiectasias, papules, and pustules. Multiple factors contribute to the etiology of the disease including vascular hyperreactivity and alterations in innate immunity such as microbial exposure to Demodex and its commensal bacteria. The different types of rosacea include erythematotelangiectatic, papulopustular, phymatous, and ocular. In darker skin tones, the apprearance may be more violaceous or more subtle. Telangiectasias may be harder to notice, but other textural changes such as papules or pustules may be present.
