Erythema Multiforme

Erythema Multiforme (EM) is an acute, self-limited immune-mediated disorder characterized by distinctive fixed target lesions with concentric color zones, primarily affecting the skin and mucous membranes. It presents in two subtypes: EM minor, which involves only the skin, and EM major, which also has mucositis. The condition typically follows infections or drug exposure and generally resolves without severe sequelae. In skin of color patients, these rashes may appear more violaceous or brown rather than true erythema. As the rash improves, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation is more common and more severe in skin of color patients.
